International institutions, universal human rights, and the role of education. by Kevin Patrick Fitzgerald, originally published on Substack, November 2025.  Reissued by Mnoty Press

My basic idea for this paper is to wrestle with a few aspects of human rights. There are people working to further human rights protection, and they seem to be losing ground to the racist and greedy propaganda.

Maybe it's just my perspective, but the greedy-racist camp seems to be more frequently represented on the internet than the humanitarian camp. This creates a major obstacle to the cultivation of a more just and peaceful world. The solution I present here is that we, the humanitarian camp, focus on education.

It's not a new idea, I know, but maybe it's slipped to a lower place on the priority list than it should.

Firstly, to frame the dilemma as I see it, the greedy-racist camp seems to understand the value of education. They are very much attending to the control of information, and access to that information. They are anti-intellectual even when they use a bunch of fancy words.

They use a bunch of AI and memes and hostile little comments that seem like bait on a hook to draw us in to petty arguments on the side and distract us from the task at hand.

I'm sure that many in this camp don't see themselves as being in this camp, and that much of their racist-greedy assertions are not really intended as such, and this demonstrates the power of education. People who have been educated to praise racist-greedy attitudes, it seems, often think of themselves as logical, even while they passionately ignore the suffering of others.

I like my daughter's doctor. My wife mentioned that we had been to the local public hospital, and that we were grateful that we did not have our surgery there. The doctor looked my wife in the eye and said 'she would not have survived.'

My daughter, and quite possibly my wife as well, would have likely died if I wasn't able to get enough money to put up a down payment to get them into a better staffed, better equipped, and more expensive hospital.

The doctor explained that the public hospital does not have an incubator, and that this is the difference that saved my beautiful daughter's life. An incubator costs about 1,200 US dollars.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO):

"In 2022, sub-Saharan Africa accounted for 57% (2.8 (2.5–3.3) million) of total under-5 deaths but only 30% of global live births. Sub-Saharan Africa had the highest neonatal mortality rate in the world at 27 deaths per 1000 live births, followed by central and southern Asia, with a neonatal mortality rate of 21 deaths per 1000 live births."

The way I see it, the only way humanity is letting so many babies die is because of racist-greedy ideology.

--

Yet, again, I don't think most people who participate in such ideology think of themselves as racist and greedy. And a real effective and lasting education reform should attend to such internal deceptions.

If you are ok with babies dying, there is something wrong with you. A spiritual disease, and you should do spiritual work to improve your empathy. Not caring about babies dying is an affront to humanity.

And maybe that's the underlying issue. Maybe that's part of why the racist-greedy camp seems to love AI. Maybe they simply have lost their love for humanity. Well, let's help them bring it back.

I was reading an article on the genocide in Sudan, and it wasn't overly graphic, but it did mention satelite images of what appeared to be piles of corpses in the streets. A person or a bot stated 'I guess it's ok if the Arabs do it'.

I don't know if it was a real person, and if it was, I don't know if they read the article. But, it's unsettling. Maybe that's the goal. Maybe it's a targeted piece of propaganda intended to crush the spirit of people who care.

The main issue, whether the person behind the post has any love for humanity or not, is that the leaders of the racist-greedy camp are working to increase their own power. They are using the internet as a weapon in this work, and an obscene amount of people seems to be going along with it.

I think a big part of the solution is education. For one thing, the humanitarian camp should study more law, medicine, and history; and should teach more law medicine, and history.

We should expand the university system of the global north to help expand higher education among the global south. This does not have to be an act of imperialism. We do not have to push ideology to educate. In fact, good education is always counter-ideological.

If people in Central Africa and Central and South Asia have the option of going to medical school or digging through mud with their hands to find little chunks of metal, I suspect that many will choose med school.

The racist-greedy camp does not want this. They want cheap labor, unregulated mining, and ignorant consumers. They seem to be largely getting what they want.

The UN does really good work in terms of education. The WHO, for example, is part of the UN and provided the information about infant mortality cited above. This is important work, and while I do have a lot of frustration with how ineffective the UN is in terms of protecting human rights, we should definitely keep them around for the research and information they provide.

Most regional trade institutions are primarily focused on facilitating growth, and thereby support greed. They can change how they operate, but when their goal is to help elites make more money, then they end up in the racist-greedy camp.

Two exceptions, it seems, are the allocation of shared currency and open borders. The EU does have issues with the racist-greedy camp trying to impose its ideology, but the fact that people can easily cross borders and not have to exchange money helps regular people and small business and that's why people keep voting to join.

CA4+ has tried the open border thing, and the racist-greedy camp seems to be shutting it down by promoting nationalist politics among member states. The British called it 'divide and rule'. It's pretty basic. Keep the people divided along racial or ethnic lines, then use the groups most aligned with the imperial power to help them rule.

All this nationalism, including the petty nationalism in the comments sections, feeds the racist-greedy camp's propaganda. They want us to think of ourselves as this or that rather than as humans. They want us to lose our love for humanity so they can gain more power.

Turning the tide on what seems to be a lot of progress made by the racist-greedy camp in the recent past will take time and effort. We have a lot of work to do.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this. I really appreciate it. I hope you are somewhere safe with good health care and good clean water and air. Thank you again. Please take good care.
